1. What MindBridge Is and Is Not
What MindBridge Is
MindBridge is a reflective personal development platform that combines:
- AI-guided self-exploration sessions based on evidence-informed frameworks
- Optional professional oversight from licensed mental health professionals
- Tools for tracking your personal growth journey
- Safety monitoring to identify concerning patterns
What MindBridge Is NOT
MindBridge is NOT:
- A crisis intervention service β We cannot provide immediate help in emergencies
- A suicide prevention hotline β We are not equipped for real-time crisis support
- A replacement for therapy β We do not provide psychotherapy or clinical treatment
- A medical service β We cannot diagnose conditions or prescribe medications
- A 24/7 monitored service β Safety concerns are not reviewed by humans in real-time
- An emergency response system β We cannot dispatch emergency services
CRITICAL UNDERSTANDING: If you are experiencing a mental health emergency, having thoughts of harming yourself or others, or are in immediate danger, do not rely on MindBridge. Call 911 or your local emergency services immediately.
2. Our Safety Approach
Safety-First Philosophy
Our safety systems are built on the principle that it is better to over-detect concerns than to miss a genuine crisis. We accept that this means some users may see crisis resources more frequently than necessary, but we consider this a feature, not a bug, because the stakes are too high for the alternative.
Multi-Layered Safety Architecture
- Proactive Education: Clear communication about when to seek emergency help
- Automated Monitoring: AI-powered analysis of all user interactions
- Tiered Classification: Four safety levels triggering appropriate responses
- Human Oversight: Professional Guide review of elevated concerns
- Clinical Escalation: Immediate notification of our clinical team for critical situations
- Accessible Resources: Always-available crisis resources and helplines
3. Safety Monitoring Systems
Automated Safety Classification
Every message you send to MindBridge is automatically analyzed for safety concerns using advanced natural language processing. Our AI examines:
- Explicit Risk Indicators: Keywords and phrases associated with self-harm or suicide
- Contextual Patterns: Intensity and specificity of concerning language
- Linguistic Markers: Tone and sentiment shifts, expressions of acute distress
Four-Tier Safety System
Level 1: Information
General expressions of difficulty, sadness, or struggle. AI continues with heightened empathy, no special intervention.
Level 2: Watch
Expressions that warrant attention. Crisis resources made visible, safety flag created for Professional Guide awareness.
Level 3: Alert
Concerning content suggesting potential risk. Prominent safety alert displayed, Professional Guide notified, session pivots to safety focus.
Level 4: Critical
Imminent risk requiring immediate intervention. Emergency resources prominently displayed, clinical oversight team immediately alerted.
4. Crisis Response Procedures
In-App Crisis Resources
When safety concerns are detected, users immediately see:
- 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline:Call or text 988 (24/7)
- Crisis Text Line:Text HOME to 741741
- International:findahelpline.com
- Emergency:911 (U.S.)
What We Can and Cannot Do
What We CAN Do:
- β Provide immediate access to crisis resources
- β Notify your Professional Guide
- β Alert our clinical team
- β Track concerning patterns
What We CANNOT Do:
- β Provide real-time crisis counseling
- β Dispatch emergency services
- β Conduct welfare checks
- β Monitor 24/7 in real-time
5. Limitations of Our Safety Systems
No System Is Perfect
While we implement robust safety measures, no automated system can perfectly detect all concerning situations. Our systems may produce false negatives (missing real concerns) or false positives (flagging non-urgent situations).
Time Delays
Safety monitoring is not instantaneous or real-time in human terms:
- Automated classification occurs within seconds
- Professional Guide review occurs within hours to days
- Clinical team review of critical flags occurs within hours
- This is not a live-monitored crisis hotline
If you need immediate help, call 911 or a crisis hotline β do not wait for MindBridge to respond.
User Responsibility
MindBridge cannot replace your own judgment about seeking help. If you are feeling unsafe, having thoughts of self-harm, or experiencing a mental health crisis, please seek immediate help from qualified crisis services or emergency responders, regardless of whether MindBridge has detected concerns.
6. Professional Oversight
Role of Professional Guides
Professional Guides are licensed mental health professionals who provide periodic oversight (when included in your subscription plan). They:
- Review safety flags for assigned users
- Monitor patterns that may indicate increasing risk
- Provide written guidance addressing safety concerns
- Escalate urgent situations to clinical oversight team
What Guides Are NOT: 24/7 on-call crisis counselors, real-time monitors of your sessions, emergency responders, or replacements for in-person mental health care.
Safety Review Frequency
- Level 2 (Watch) flags: Reviewed by Professional Guide within 48 hours
- Level 3 (Alert) flags: Reviewed by Professional Guide within 24 hours
- Level 4 (Critical) flags: Reviewed by clinical oversight team within 2 hours
Note: These are target response times for internal review, not guaranteed response times. They do not constitute emergency response services.
7. Your Role in Your Safety
Know When to Seek Emergency Help
Seek immediate help if you:
- Have thoughts of hurting yourself or others
- Have a plan or means to harm yourself
- Feel you cannot keep yourself safe
- Are experiencing a mental health crisis
- Are having a medical emergency
Do not rely on MindBridge in these situations. Call 911, go to an emergency room, or contact a crisis hotline immediately.
Use MindBridge Appropriately
- MindBridge is best used as a complement to, not replacement for, professional mental health care
- Continue working with your healthcare providers if you have a mental health condition
- Use MindBridge for reflection, skill-building, and personal growth
- Don't use MindBridge as your only source of support if experiencing significant distress
Keep Crisis Resources Accessible
- Save crisis hotline numbers in your phone
- Identify emergency contacts you can reach out to
- Know the location of your nearest emergency room
- Have a safety plan if you have ongoing mental health concerns
8. Mandatory Reporting
As a digital platform, MindBridge and our Professional Guides may have legal obligations to report certain situations to authorities:
Child Abuse or Neglect
Professional Guides are mandatory reporters of suspected child abuse or neglect. Reports are made to appropriate child protective services, even in digital contexts.
Imminent Danger
If we have credible information that you or someone else is in imminent danger, we may contact emergency services. This is an extraordinary measure taken only when necessary to prevent serious harm.
Professional Duty to Warn
In rare circumstances where there is a credible, imminent threat of serious harm, Professional Guides may have a professional duty to warn potential victims, contact law enforcement, or take other protective actions.
Notification When Possible
When legally and safely possible, we will notify you if we need to make a mandatory report and explain the reasons. However, in some situations, notification may not be possible or appropriate.
